Downsizing with FairSplit
Downsizing
What makes downsizing hard? A challenge to downsizing is keeping track of all your stuff. FairSplit, a free on-line tool, helps you solve that challenge. On FairSplit, you can list your items and assign downsizing categories you determine best fit your needs. Remember the “going with”, giving to family, friends and neighbors, donating to charity, consignment, garage sale (or estate sale) and curb options? How does FairSplit work? Let’s say you currently own an heirloom dining room set that seats 10. You also own a silver flatware set for 12. You also have a 10 inch radial saw in the garage and 14 pairs of lightly worn shoes. None of these are “going with”. Firstly, you would take a quick cell phone photo of each, upload to FairSplit. The dining table could go under the consignment category. The silver flatware could go in the family category. The 10 inch radial saw would go in the sell category and the shoes could go in the donation category, with a sub category of perhaps the sheriff’s Youth Ranch. Other miscellaneous items can also be listed and you can selectively invite others (family, friends and neighbors) to take a look at items you are wanting to either sell or give away. All in all, FairSplit will help make your downsizing project easy-peasy.
“Your FairSplit system was remarkable. It allowed me to clean-out my home which had sold over a weekend and needed to be emptied in a month. With the assistance of the FairSplit team and the flexibility of their system, I was able to distribute about 280 pieces of furniture and possessions to 14 relatives in 20 days! And, as important, I could randomize the process keeping me out of the selection process. FairSplit saved the day. Thank you.” Steve C. (PA)
